Hi, I’m Kimberly — the heart behind Learning Lane TX. I’m a mom, lifelong educator, and author who has spent more than 30 years helping children learn in ways that feel joyful, meaningful, and full of imagination. I’ve worn many hats over the years — dyslexia teacher, art teacher, special education teacher, principal, and practicing educational diagnostician — and each one has deepened my belief that every child’s imagination matters.
Learning Lane is a passion project I started almost a year ago. It is my way of bringing that belief to life. Being in schools every day keeps me grounded in what students and teachers truly need. Sharing that love of learning through books is one of my greatest joys. My mission is to support families and educators with resources that are engaging, practical, and emotionally meaningful.
Thank you for being here. Whether you are a parent, teacher, or fellow lover of learning, I openly invite you into my “lane” — a place where imagination matters and learning comes to life. Stay tuned — new Learning Lane releases are always on the way.
As a full-time educator, full-time mom, and grandma, I understand the beautiful chaos of balancing passion with responsibility. My days are filled with students, schedules, evaluations, and family life — yet my mind never stops dreaming up new stories, lessons, and creative ways to make learning feel magical. Ideas come to me faster than time allows, especially as I expand into junior high chapter books, hands-on lesson plans, and resources that support teachers across grade levels.
Even so, I remain deeply committed to publishing meaningful, engaging educational content each month. Every book I release is crafted with intention, love, and a genuine desire to make learning feel joyful for children and manageable for the adults guiding them. Thank you for your patience, your encouragement, and your belief in the Learning Lane series as it continues to grow, evolve, and reach more learners each day.
I was a junior in high school (during caveman ages) when someone first told me my words mattered. My English teacher pulled me aside one day and asked if I would read my essay aloud to the class. It was a story about a student being made fun of — all the emotions, the hurt, the quiet bravery, the overcoming that comes with trying to belong.
I was too embarrassed to read it myself. No teenager wants to be the one who pours their heart onto paper only to have their classmates pick it apart or give them ammunition to tease you later. So he asked if he could read it anonymously, without saying who wrote it. I agreed.
As he read, his voice cracked. He teared up. The room went still. Hearing my own words spoken aloud — and seeing the impact they had — was surreal. For the first time, I felt proud of something I had created.
But pride didn’t erase the insecurity I carried. My childhood was full of constant moves, sometimes several schools in a single year. My mother was a single parent doing everything she could to keep us fed, and school wasn’t always the priority. I had gaps in my education, especially in spelling and grammar (long before spell check came to the rescue). Those struggles chipped away at my confidence as a writer.
The year before, I’d had an English teacher who didn’t read the content of my work at all — just handed back papers covered in red marks, with barely any white space left. It made me feel small. It made me feel like my ideas didn’t matter if they weren’t perfect on the page.
But that contrast — one teacher who saw only mistakes, and another who saw my heart — shaped me. It planted the seed for the educator I would one day become.
I became the teacher who built a classroom family. The one who led with compassion, kindness, and connection. The one who believed that trust comes first, and real learning follows.
And now, all these years later, that moment in high school still sits at the center of why I write: to make sure every child knows their voice matters — even when it shakes.
Thank you for visiting my page and for supporting me on this incredible journey. Learning Lane TX has grown from a small spark in my heart into something truly meaningful, and I’m grateful for every person who has cheered me on along the way.
To my friends, family, and colleagues — your encouragement, your belief in me, and your willingness to celebrate every milestone have carried me through the long nights, the big dreams, and the brave steps it takes to build something new. I wouldn’t be here without you.
And to every reader, parent, educator, and learner who finds their way to this space — thank you for being part of my lane. Your presence means more than you know, and I’m honored to share this journey with you.
💗
